What is Counselling?

 

 

Counselling is for people who are having difficulties and need someone to talk to that isn't family or friend and can help you to get a better insight into yourself. Being able to talk things over with a trained and qualified counsellor can be helpful in understanding your world and the world around us when we feel somewhat conflicted or uncomfortable in the surrounding of your day to day lives.

There are different styles of talking therapy.

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy,

Finding the right counsellor for you, can you get on, could you tell this person all you need to without feeling like you are being pressured and could you build a therapeutic relationship

 

Once you have found the right counsellor for you, you can arrange your first session.

I'm a person-centred counsellor who looks at you as a whole person and what is going on for you.

 

Counselling with me is 1- 2 - 1, face to face, phone or online.

I accept you as you are.

Having someone to talk to that isn't related or a friend can be a hard and thought-provoking, but also a breath of fresh air.

 

I try to see the world through your eyes, in us working together we will spend a lot of time exploring what is going on for you in your life.

I offer a warm, safe, non-judgemental, confidential space. Where it allows you to discuss what it is you are having difficulties with "a lot on your plate".

It can feel overwhelming and frustrating because everything has been locked away for so long and you don't know where to start or something has just happened and you need to explore your expectations.

 

I have helped many unique individuals with all sorts of minor to complex needs.

I know when you start counselling that it can feel nerve-racking until you have started talking, the build-up leaves you with all sorts of sensation and feelings that you will not be able to handle them

I am here to help you work through those feelings, making it easier to handle.

 

You are the expert of your life (you just don't know it yet).

 

Counselling is far from "one pill fixes all", counselling is a way to offload and I am here to make sure you are happy and comfortable within our professional relationship.

 

I agree and abide by the strict code of ethics set out by the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

Are there a set amount number of sessions?

I don't set the number of sessions, as there could be a lot that you bringing with you and we would need to build a therapeutic relationship we will work at your pace and after 6 sessions we will review to see how you think the sessions are going.
